Canción llévame lejos
Mauro Libertella

NONFICTION | 2025 | 128 pages

The practice of compilations or mixtapes was all the rage until the end of the 20th century, when the MP3 finally dematerialized music. This practice involved choosing a handful of songs and arranging them in a particular order on a cassette or CD to then gift it to a friend, a partner, or a loved one. Putting together this musical offering was a task that had to be carried out with love and responsibility. In Canción llevame lejos, Mauro Libertella took the structure of the mixtape and turned it into a book. It has 12 chapters distributed over two sides: from the Rolling Stones to Charly García, from Oasis to the Velvet Underground, passing also through Nick Cave and Franco Battiato.

Essays on rock and pop? Autobiographical stories? Musical vindications? In any case, this book is a testament to how some songs mysteriously stay with us. They become entangled with life until they become inseparable and are the soundtrack of the passage of time.
