Lenguaje inclusivo y exclusión de clase

A mutating and heterogeneous work. A poetics of diasporas. Three books that each traverse and combine three languages (Galician, Catalan, and Spanish) and diverse narrative forms. Brigitte Vasallo challenges us out of necessity, desire, and indignation. How can we understand and appropriate a history that we have been denied, the absence of a common language, the silences, the cultural myths?

"My mother tongue is misery, uprooting, diaspora, silence. My mother tongues are all of these, to my disappointment or to my delight—all of these tongues that I write poorly, with spelling mistakes, with poor vocabulary, all mixed up, and all flawed. But here, today, I stop choosing. And I stop lying: a language is not a mere collection of sounds; it is also an imaginary, a dialogue. Tríptico del silencio is three similar but distinct books, written in my three mother tongues, for three linguistic communities, if such a thing exists. Each of the three is written, in turn, a mixture of the three languages: because that is who we are, the lack of a common language and making do however we can. And because it takes effort to understand a history that has been denied, to tune one's ear and allow oneself to be uncomfortable, and to surrender a little, too, to impossible grammars.”
