This is a collection of Ribeyro’s texts published between 1953 and 1994, articles about Peruvian, Latin American, and French literature. There are reviews of the novels Los ríos profundos (1958) by José María Arguedas and La vida exagerada de Martín Romaña (1981) by Alfredo Bryce Echenique as well as reflections on a Lima without a novel and texts about the French writers Gustave Flaubert and Guy de Maupassant.

Ribeyro also collects all of his prologues, from the one in his very first book, Los gallinazos sin plumas (1955). At the same time, the reader can enjoy a series of texts about historical figures in the section “Proverbiales” such as the Inca Atahualpa and the Peruvian writers Ricardo Palma and Abraham Valdelomar. Among the foreigners are the Roman poet Ovid and the French writer Marquis de Sade.
