Julio Ramón Ribeyro (Estate)

Julio Ramón Ribeyro (1921-1994) was a Peruvian writer of short stories, novels, essays, and plays. He was considered to be a master of the short story, and his works are known for mixing social criticism and fantasy. Ribeyro was the author of eight volumes of short stories, including Los gallinazos sin plumas (Featherless Buzzards, 1995). He studied Law and Letters at the Catholic University of Lima and moved to Paris to work as a journalist at Paris Press and, later, as a cultural advisor and ambassador at UNESCO. His work has been translated into multiple languages, and he was awarded the National Literature Prize in 1983, the National Culture Prize in 1993, and the Juan Rulfo Prize in 1994. He lived most of his life in France and made brief returns to Peru.

A magnificent storyteller, one of the best of Latin America and probably of the Spanish language, unjustly not recognized as such.
