Paco Ignacio Taibo II
Paco Ignacio Taibo II is a historian, writer, and one of the fathers of the neo-noir genre in Latin America, as well as a university professor and current director of the Fondo de Cultura Económica. In 1986, he was one of the founders of the International Association of Crime Writers. Th following year he created Semana Negra de Gijón, which is now the oldest festival dedicated to crime fiction. He directed it until 2012. His books have been translated into multiple languages and have won awards including the Grijalbo Novel Prize in 1982, the Café Gijón and National History Prize in 1986, the Hammett Prize for best noir novel in 1988, 1991, and 1994; the 1992 Planeta Mexico Prize; the Bellas Artes de Narrativa Colina Prize; and the Captain Alonso de León Steel Medal for Historical Merit in 2012.
