Munda
Juan Cárdenas

FICTION | 2026 | 180 pages

A uniquely virtuous novel by one of the most lauded voices in contemporary Latin American literature

Munda can be read as a short treatise on the prophetic powers of poetry—on divination as a central process in the act of reading. Yet it also transforms into a book of poems that, rather than succumbing to the professional manufacture of verse, aspires to a more primal state of poetry: that of a book of incantations or, to use a tautology, of enchanted songs. Munda is also a book of successive translations —a translation that reflects upon the act of translating and, finally and perhaps most fundamentally, it is a novel. An epistolary novel, to be sure—one that employs the Arabic technique of the frame story, but also a novel that incorporates all the aforementioned elements into its methods and materials, creating a kind of dizzying historical, autobiographical and divinatory kaleidoscope.
