La Costa Nostra
Laura Ardila Arrieta

NONFICTION | 2023 | 224 pages

La Costa Nostra is a victory for citizens. Journalism and independent publishing come together to tell the story of the most powerful corporate and political clan in Colombia.

This book is the result of Laura Ardila’s journalistic obsession, of her desire to scrutinize strands of power that have an unimaginable reach, and of her mission to understand corporate success and ability, client practices, and the affective ties of the most powerful corporate and political clan in Colombia. This is an investigation that was born during Laura’s five years reporting for La Silla Caribe and finds solidity and unprecedented character during two additional years investigating and writing about the actions of a patriarch and his descendants.

This is a book that takes us from the Middle East to a mansion in Barranquilla’s El Prado neighborhood, shedding light on the darkest corners of an empire that was born from a promise of change.

After years of investigative work by the author, La Costa Nostra was pulled from publication by one of Colombia's major publishing houses days before it was scheduled to go to print, and later rejected by others despite having gone through rigorous fact-checking and legal review. This book is published with the support of El Veinte, Fundación para la Libertad de Prensa (FLIP), la Liga contra el Silencio, and Rey Naranjo Editores.
