Louise Belmonte

Louise Belmonte (Brazil, 1995) is a writer, playwright, filmmaker and director. Her writing has been featured by PEN International’s Tomorrow Club as part of its Spotlight: Americas. Belmonte holds a degree in Film and completed postgraduate studies in Creative Writing at Instituto Vera Cruz, as well as training in psychoanalysis at Centro de Estudos Psicanalíticos (CEP), in São Paulo. She recently earned an MFA in Creative Writing in Spanish from New York University (NYU). Alongside her literary and artistic practice, she co-founded Editora Velha, an independent publishing house dedicated to contemporary literature. She is also a founding partner of Instituto Frestas, a nomadic school that has developed educational and cultural projects across Brazil’s 26 states, and a partner at Boteco Por Amor, a bar and cultural gathering space in São Paulo’s Barra Funda neighborhood that brings together gastronomy, music, and the city’s contemporary cultural scene. Her work moves across literature, theater, and film, with a particular interest in the body, memory, language, desire, and the shifting boundaries between the I and the Other.
