Ricardo Silva Romero
NOVEL | 2002 | 220 pages
It's Holy Week 1998 and Ricardo Silva Romero can't seem to sit down and write even though numerology, his astral chart, the tarot cards and the lines on his hand all coincide in saying that because he carries the name he carries, because he is who he is, because he has the hands he has and because he was born in Bogotá on August 14th, 1975 at 8:50pm, he is destined to do so. It isn't magical realism. It's magic. Real magic. Black magic. Witchcraft. As if we were watching a movie about the circles of Hell, we follow this young writer's life over the course of nine days during which he feels particularly attacked by reality. While he struggles to finish writing the autobiography of a self-help author who committed suicide, he has to face the city, the cripples, himself and, as if this weren't enough, the witchcraft to which his family has fallen prey.
