Karen Chacek

Karen Chacek (Mexico City, 1972) has bachelor on Cinema by Universidad Iberoamericana. Freelancer at heart, Karen makes a living by doing what she loves the most: writing stories. Hence, she works as a writer and a screenwriter.

Karen has published the short stories anthology Días paralelos (Salida de Emergencia, 2006), as well as several books for children: Conspiracy Girl (Almadía, 2009; Cinco Puntos Press, 2015), Feathered Tales series (Wing Whackers, 2013-2014), Esa Visita (Libros Pollo Blanco, 2014), Caperucita roja (adaptation of Charles Perrault’s classic. Alas y Raíces/DGP-Conaculta, 2014). Una mascota inesperada (Castillo, 2007), La cosa horrible (Colofón, 2011), Uno de esos días (SM, 2012).

Her first adult novel, La caída de los pájaros, was recently published (Alfaguara, 2014) to critical acclaim.

Her work has also been included in several anthologies in Mexico and the USA: Palabras Errantes, Mexican Speculative Fiction (Cambridge University, 2013), Three Messages and a Warning: Contemporary Mexican Short Stories of the Fantastic (Small Beer Press, 2011), Festín de muertos.
