Ricardo Silva Romero
NOVEL | 2009 | 400 pages
Sports commentator Pepe Calderón Tovar loses his voice the moment Andrés Escobar, the Colombian soccer team’s defense in the 1994 World Cup, scores the infamous own goal that will turn him into a national martyr. Tormented by his sudden loss, Calderón decides that the only way he will recover his voice will be by seeking revenge: his mission will be to kill the soccer player.
Through a satirical look at Colombian reality and a humorous tone that easily turns to tragedy, Ricardo Silva Romero has built a character based on the various testimonies he has collected from several personalities belonging to the world of Colombian soccer. Reporters, sportswriters and players conspire to paint a portrait of a man who represents the way in which feelings of anger and disarray can undermine the spirit of a man who is just as good and bad as anyone else.
